Drainage – Basic to Creative Solutions
The best defense is a good offence. From connecting pipe to gutters, building up soil for positive drain flow, getting water away from the foundation is a good measure. French Drains are designed to trap and direct standing surface water away from an area underground. The size is based on the situation and volume of water.
Creative solutions may include a natural creek effect with a mixture of stones in culverts. Incorporate a small stone bridge, some moss and native plants for that mountain stream look. Sometimes referred to as a Dry Creek.
Rain Gardens are fun and a great way to solve a problem with added benefit to the environment by filtering chemicals and oils from shingles, drives and parking lots.
Important Note; Reduce mosquito population by removing standing water
